Bandwidth and consequently optimum overall efficiency of network system relies greatly on mechanism of packet management in IP routers. Our research objective is to implement rough set theory to minimizing number of the network system attributes responsible for decision making in selection of those packets, which improve its transmission. Design and performance evaluation of an hybrid reservation-polling MAC protocol for power-line communications

This paper presents an hybrid reservation-polling MAC protocol able to effectively deal with the channel disturbances typical of Power-line communication systems. Channel access is controlled by a scheduler running on a centralized station. Fast retransmission of corrupted packets is employed to achieve high performance on Power-line channels characterized by frequent error bursts due to impulsive noise. The performance of our proposed mechanism are evaluated by means of simulation, for the more challenging case of time-sensitive traffic sources (voice calls). Due to the nature that high datarate leads to shorter transmission range, the performance enhancement by high datarate 802.11 WLANs may be degraded when applying high datarate to an 802.11 based multihop ad hoc network. In this paper, we evaluate, through extensive simulations, the performance of multihop ad hoc networks at multiple transmission datarates, in terms of the number of hops between source and destination, throughput, end-to-end delay and packet loss. Impact of Spreading Factor Imperfect Orthogonality in LoRa Communications

In this paper we study the impact of imperfect-orthogonality in LoRa spreading factors (SFs) in simulation and real-world experiments. First, we analyze LoRa modulation numerically and show that collisions between packets of different SFs can indeed cause packet loss if the interference power received is strong enough. Second, we validate such findings using commercial devices, confirming our numerical results. Free Space Optics (FSO) systems present some important advantages if compared to Radio Frequency links, but they can be affected by several impairments that degrade the link quality and availability. In particular, due to temporary interruptions of the line-of-sight condition between the transmitter and the receiver, packet loss can occur during data transmission. ARQ parameters for VoIP in IEEE 802.16 networks

IEEE 802.16 standard defines two data retransmission mechanisms. HARQ provides fast retransmissions in cost of slightly increased overhead. On the contrary, ARQ has less overhead in cost of bit longer delays. It is therefore often used with BE connections. In addition to delay tolerant applications, BE can also be used for real-time services. Therefore, in this paper we analyze the ARQ mechanism and provide guidelines on how to set the ARQ parameters to achieve a good balance between the VoIP delay and packet loss.
